Good morning everyone!
This season of Traitor’s U.S. is so good that it sent me into a tailspin watching all of Boston Rob’s game tapes, aka old seasons of Survivor. I might not even finish reading Return of the King by the time I see it in theaters next Sunday. Devastating if true…
After hosting a big weekend for some out of state friends, I have mostly just been reading LOTR and watching reality TV… so here’s this month in things other people meant to tell you.
Alexis said “When I look up, I see my friends teaching me to live my life like it is my life, and this life must include radical, transgressive bravery and loving my friends and allowing them to love me.” 💓
Solomon is fundraising cooking supplies for his special education classroom in Brooklyn and said use the Promo Code LIFTOFF to have your donation matched by the website (good for the next few days). It’s in pre-funding right now which is why you can’t see the other donations that have been made. This is Sol and I love him so much and he’s so good to his students!!
I started a more flow-oriented, breath-based yoga recently, which is very new to me. I’m constantly living in my head over my body which a) makes me feel bad at this practice and b) is why I’m giving it a try. About a week after I started, Anna had something to say about exactly this.
We wonder: I am I doing this wrong? How can it be better? What can I do to make it better? When, guys — it’s literally breathing. It’s keeping you alive. How could we possibly do that better.
Which reminds me of last year when I wrote a newsletter that was so monkey brained, it compelled Jace to give me a book about meditation. He said "the most human thing we can do is breathe.”
JP said I “dropped” having a boyfriend “out of nowhere” which is totally my bad, any references on this blog to someone named Forrest have been about my boyfriend Forrest who is also named after a county.
Forrest “dropped” being in a band with my brother in law “out of nowhere” which is, quite earnestly, the kind of life I love to live!
Nico said to delete Spotify but I’m still going to link my boyfriend’s new album on Spotify.
My grandma used to host an annual 4th of July party at the ranch that got so out of hand, she spent a summer in Europe to get out of throwing it. When I told her about some friends of mine coming to the ranch, she said: [with a thick Mississippi accent]: “Oh, I’m a big believer in a BIG party!”
Here’s my favorite passage from the Lord of the Rings trilogy so far.
“Deep down in him lived still unconquered his plain hobbit-sense: he knew in the core of his heart that he was not large enough to bear such a burden, even if such visions were not a mere cheat to betray him. The one small garden of a free gardener was all his need and due, not a garden swollen to realm; his own hands to use, not the hands of others to command.”
And finally, Joe in the chat.
What are you doing to improve or appreciate your life more? Speeding things up? Slowing things down? On one hand, I’ve been in a renaissance of getting shit done that’s been on the back burner for years (committing to Spanish lessons, getting masseter botox), but I’m also constantly fighting the “how about y’all just be happy with what you have” fight. Lmk your thoughts.
Lots of love! Kendall
OK JOE! Don't call me out like that >:( Love it... whole lotta friendship here
Not me being like "man, whoever Anna is, that's a good quote," and realizing it was literally me. Cheers to relearning the lessons 💘 I loved this!
